Why you need more.
Where do I start with blazers? Perhaps a top-down approach is in order.
I have great appreciation for anything that can be labeled as belonging to the family of jackets and coats. Blame genes and my mother for that. Beyond the warmth that this "family" of garments is designed to provide, you can't ignore that they are outfit makers (or brakers). Perhaps even more so than shoes and bags. Think about it. Regardless of how "it", "in" and bedazzling your shoes are, think about the impact a tuxedo jacket or that perfect camel coat would have? In my humblest of opinions, the jacket family can take you from A to B 90% of the time.
But today the spotlight is on the blazer - as the item du jour or perhaps more correctly stated the item of the past 1/2 decade.
Firstly brought to the attention of women by Yves Saint Laurent in the mid '60s, the blazer began its journey in the female wardrobe as 'le smoking'. In recent years, it has been celebrated on the catwalks of Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, Celine and Saint Laurent and it has been a signature piece season after season. The blazer -slash- tuxedo jacket, embodies a unique mixture of minimalistic and androgynous lines that feel very much today. Regardless of how trends and fashions progress, season-in season-out, this item is perhaps one of the few constant reference points for ce qui est style. Why you need one or more? Because it can "make" your outfit, its clean-looking, its versatile, it kind of makes you look more serious and most importantly it doesn't require much effort. Its very effortless in Parisian way. Who doesn't want more of that?
